Reading and Writing are amongst the exceptional gifts of God to mankind. Publishing is part and parcel of writing and thousands of journals are publishing in most of the domains of knowledge. Medical research and writing are key factors to revolutionary advancements in medicine. Still, research and writing are way-forwards to emerging challenges in every discipline of science and life. A contemporary example is of COVID-19 pandemic which generated a humongous body of research and publications encompassing etiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics, management, outcomes, impacts on health, economy, and psychology, etc.[1]

The Association of Pediatric Surgeons of Pakistan (APSP) had started an electronic case report journal, APSP Journal of Case Report, in 2010 with an objective to flourish a research culture in pediatric surgeons of the country.[2] After a decade, in its annual congress at Nawab Shah (2020), the APSP decided to start a full flag journal that can publish every category of manuscripts, both in electronic and print versions. A debate was started on the name and objectives of the journal and finally, the “Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Surgery” was approved. The website of the journal was launched on 2nd June 2020, with a mission statement “Improving patient care by publishing quality research”. Adolescence marks the transition from childhood to adulthood and the transfer of care from pediatric surgeons to general surgeons. Much of literature especially on surgical care does not address adolescents separately, and very few medical journals are dedicated to adolescents. No journal is published on surgical care of pediatrics with special emphasis on adolescents. Therefore, there was a clear need for a new journal in the surgical care of children and adolescents.

The journal will not only publish quality research but also serve as an institute for training on the medical writing, of young consultants. Every effort will be made to involve the novice writers in the manuscript improvement process through editorial and peer reviews. Several assistant editors and associate editors have been taken on the editorial board for their training as future editors of the journal. The journal will also provide a platform for publishing congress abstracts/issues in future meetings of APSP. Recently, Pediatric Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgical Association (PELSA) declared the Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Surgery as its official publication.

We as main stakeholders of the journal will put every effort to maintain the quality of its content, and index it with every available indexing body to increase its reach and readership. We look forward to receiving quality manuscripts for the journal. May our God help us in this endeavor.
